Independence Day: A Breakthrough Blockbuster or Mediocre Movie?
Happy July 4th weekend everyone! In the immortal words of President Bill Pullman: “We will not go quietly into the night!” We will not vanish without a fight! We’re going to live on! We’re going to survive! Today we celebrate our Independence Day!”
In this long awaited episode of Anomaly, we discuss the 1996 quintessential summer blockbuster, Independence Day starring Will Smith as action hero guy and Jeff Goldblum as the nerd with a plan and Randy Quaid as well, Randy Quaid. This cast is chock full of many fandom’s favorites, like Brent Spiner, Adam Baldwin, & Mary McDonnell. You might even see some Stargate cast members.
In a happy coincidence, just before recording this episode, the sequel Independence Day: Resurgence was announced. It is scheduled to hit theaters in late June 2016.
While Angela has a good portion of the movie seared into her memory and heart due to an unfortunate lack of cable in 1997, Jen has only seen Independence Day twice and it mixes with memories of other silly Sci Fi action movies of the past 20 years.
On the surface Independence Day might be regular old action movie fair, but Angela will argue its merits on many levels. Jen enjoys the movie, but does not feel like it separates itself from the pack. Who do you agree with? Let us know in the comments or on our Facebook Group Page. Also feel free to share your favorite summer blockbuster, we might talk about that one next!
