The New Star Trek Series: A Continuing Mission

By | November 24th, 2015|Anomalous Musings, Sci Fi, Star Trek|

Donate Blog RSS iTunes Stitcher Zune Podcast RSS Ever since the announcement that Star Trek will be returning to TV (or CBS All Access, if you want to be specific) in 2017, I have been asked over and over again... What do you want to see from the new Star Trek series? The news broke while I was out of town at the beginning of the month, and many people beat me to the punch of writing up a wish list of what they'd like to see in the new series. [...]

Anomaly Vidcast | Wizard World Comic Con Austin 2015

By | November 22nd, 2015|Anomaly, Convention Report, Show Notes|

Donate iTunes Stitcher Zune Podcast RSS Blog RSS Wizard World Comic Con Austin: The Adventure is Always Worth It This episode of Anomaly is a vidcast featuring commentary, photos, and video of our trip to Wizard World Comic Con Austin. Due to foul weather, our trek to the convention was a treacherous one: flooding, tornadoes, and gobs of stress. I don't think it's exaggerating to say this trip was almost as epic/harrowing as The Fellowship's adventures in The Lord of the Rings. Like The Fellowship, our band of heroes traveled separately (or in small groups) to Austin, intent [...]

Fantasy Books: Classics, Both Old and New

By | November 19th, 2015|Anomalous Musings, Book Reviews, Books, Fantasy|

Blog RSS iTunes Podcast RSS Stitcher Zune Donate My name is Lynn. This month, I’m participating in NaNoWriMo for the fifth year in a row, and once again, it’s turning into a fantasy novel, and I am an Anomaly. To continue my journey into this list of 50 Fantasy Books that everyone should read, I thought I’d consider some of the books I read years ago instead of a few new ones. When I was younger, I didn’t read a lot of fantasy. My reading choices included a lot of [...]

Meet the Anomaly Podcast Hosts

Jen Rhodes
Jen RhodesAnomaly Podcast
In 3rd grade, Jen coaxed the student body into playing “V” during recess. She lead the Visitors as “Diana” until red dust, AKA cherry flavored Kool-Aid mix, ended her reign. Without her leadership, the game ended soon after.

Angela Flournoy

Angela’s first memories include Wrath of Kahn, Return of the Jedi, talking with 4th grade boy scouts about Amazing Stories instead of with girls about whatever 4th grade girls chat about. But she was never a tomboy and thus an Anomaly.

Geek Girl Podcast & Blog

Anomaly PodcastAnomaly has been a Parsec Award finalist for two years in a row and was highlighted by Libsyn Syndication as a “Podcast Luminary”.

From the start, the founders of Anomaly had but one goal in mind: to have fun while sharing the hosts’ feminine perspectives on all things geek. Created over ten years ago by  Jen and Angela, Anomaly features commentary and reviews on sci-fi and fantasy books, television, and films. Episode topics also include gaming, cosplay, convention reportsinterviews, and geek culture.

The term “Anomaly”, as it is used by this geek girl podcast & blog, was originally coined by Jen and Angela. They use the descriptor to set themselves apart from the stereotypes that are typically associated with geeks. Anomalies are women who do not allow anyone to tell them how to act or how to geek. And they nerd-it-up over whatever, whenever, and where ever they choose.

This term is reserved for women.  Sorry, men,  you can not have it. You can call yourselves “Anomalies” if you want, but we like the term “Singularities” for dudes like us.  Singularity: the state of being singular, distinct, peculiar, uncommon or unusual. We Anomalies think it sings. Rock on, our a-typical brothers, rock on. You, too, are welcome here.

“Anomaly = Awesomeness! Jen and Angela’s Anomaly Podcast ROCKS! Not only are they entertaining, well-versed on all things sci-fi and fantasy, articulate and multifaceted, but they simply crack me up! The quality of the audio and attention to the finer points of editing are Uhura-worthy, and it’s fabulous that they are willing to point out the sometimes less-stellar aspects of what they’re discussing (The Game, anyone?) without dropping into insults or denigration. If you, too, are a geek or love someone who is, tune into The Anomaly Podcast, posthaste.”
