The Anomaly Podcast, with Jen and Angela

Anomaly PodcastAnomaly is a geek girl podcast and blog, founded by Jen and Angela in 2007. The show is often featured in the What’s Hot section, under TV and Film within the iTunes Store, and has been deemed a Podcast Luminary by Libsyn.com. The hosts are described by listeners as “smart”, “funny”, “informative” and “addictive”. Their geeky episodes are centered on sci-fi fantasy books, movies, television, and games, as well as interviews, cosplay tips, and conventions reports.  Jen and Angela have always had two goals in mind for their show; to have fun and to offer their feminine perspective on all things geek. Basically, Anomaly helps geeks break the stereotypes that unfairly pigeonhole them, so they can “geek the way they want to geek” and free themselves from the dark arts of boredom.

Award Winning

Anomaly has been nominated, by their listeners, for a Parsec Award for three years in a row. In August of 2015 and in 2016, Anomaly was a finalist under the category of Best Speculative Fan or News Podcast (General).

Awards include Rookie of the year and Best Panel of Show Hosts in 2009 and Best Panel of Show Hosts in 2010 from Star Wars Fanworks; a network in which Anomaly once was a member.

Anomaly: Something that deviates from what is standard, normal, or expected; an oddity, peculiarity, irregularity, inconsistency, incongruity, a rarity.

The term “Anomaly”, as it is used in this community, was originally coined by Jen and Angela. They use the descriptor to set themselves apart from the stereotypes that are typically associated with geeks. Anomalies are women who do not allow themselves to “pigeonholed”. They break all stereotypes and geek the way they want to geek.

This term is reserved for women.  Sorry, men,  you can not have it. But one of your brethren, a fellow Anomaly listener, proposed that you call yourselves “Singularities.”  Singularity: the state of being singular, distinct, peculiar, uncommon or unusual. We Anomalies think it sings. Rock on, our atypical brothers, rock on. You, too, are welcome here. In fact, one of our staff members is a Singularity. Noah writes for our blog and joins us on trips to Austin Comic Con. He adds another dimension to our substance here at Anomaly. Be sure to check out all his articles too.

Anomaly of Star Trek Into Darkness Debate

Donate Podcast RSS Stitcher iTunes Zune Hi, this is Jen. I'm a co-founder and co-host of Anomaly. This Star Trek Into Darkness Debate features a discussion regarding how the film treats its female characters. Was that panty scene even necessary? The debate and listener comments are meant to bring light to the discussion being had on the interwebs about this very topic. Angela and I purposefully took extreme stances in order to make the debate more interesting and perhaps entertaining. Our goal was to represent both sides of this discussion while offering [...]

The Host’s Picks: Jen’s Top Five Anomaly Episodes

"Anomaly", the show I've been recording with my friend for almost a decade, is like a little time capsule to me. Most of my favorite episodes include the sounds of my son, Aaron, and Angela's little boy, Russell, in the background. Often, they're playing quietly in our laps as we talk or they're screaming their heads off downstairs as our husbands "try" to keep them quiet.  At any time, I can push play to remember my "B.C.E." (Before Children Energy) and hear my  "A.A.E." (After Aaron Exhaustion). Regardless of [...]

Anomaly Classic: Galaxy Quest

Donate iTunes Stitcher Zune Podcast RSS Blog RSS Welcome to the Anomaly Podcast! In 2008, Angela and I covered one of our favorite movies--Galaxy Quest. When we polled our listeners about which archived Anomaly episode they wanted us to reintroduce to our podcast feed, they overwhelmingly chose Galaxy Quest. It seems we aren't the only ones who love this sci-fi comedy. SPOILER ALERT! The story focuses on the cast of Galaxy Quest, a once-popular television space-drama series starring Jason Nesmith (Allen) as the commander of a [...]
